I see fire and lightning I see a kingdom of rain I hear small children laughing  I feel joy and I feel pain.  We're all hopelessly lost So let's just stay on that highway Another hundred miles  And another tape to play.  I don't know where we're going  I don't know where we've been  In the dark and in the water Well I'm sure you need a friend  Hear the wolves yeah they're howling  Cos they haven't ate for weeks And the water is rushing Cos the dam has sprung a leak.  And it's up to our ankles Soon it'll be our knees And you'd start praying  And hope God is listening.  I guess I'll strum my guitar  And hope everyone can hear  I will sing them songs of glory And of all my hopes and fears. So let’s all come together Let’s all dance and let’s all sing And let’s call it the mountain Cos we really can’t do anything. And love is our weapon Pen is mightier than sword If we could just get our asses And not be okay with being bored Well I know it’s hard to speak And it’s harder yet to do But the water’s rising quickly Time to pay the devil his due

Tennessee 02:41
I went to Tenesse with a washboard I went to Tenessee with my guitar I went to Tennessee for a woman, lord She left me right where you are I met her down in Memphis At a whiskey bar She took me back to her house, lord When I told her I played guitar We sat out on her porch She gave me a beer She said she was getting chilly, lord And asked, why don’t you come here? When I went in I noticed something It struck me pretty queer She made me swear on the bible, my lord That I would always be there. I fell for her pretty hard And I thought that she liked me too, But she was a catholic girl- my lord! From that old catholic school. She said well you know that I like you And yeah we’ve had some fun. But I love Jesus more, my lord So it looks like we’re done. So if you’re in Tennessee Maybe you should knock on The door of my catholic girl, my lord And maybe play her this song.

I'm gonna smash up your Mercedes If I hear you're talking shit.  I already want to, I need an excuse to do it.  Well you got a Benz And I got a bat Might not have been 55 thousand  But I can do the job with that.  You've been flirting with my woman  And I don't like that much.  She says you've got a new Mercedes And you've been paying for her lunch.  Well you know I ain't got money And I don't have that much to lose  If you've been playing with my woman  I guess I'm gonna play with you.  Well I've been driving my impala And yeah it's a few years old And it's seen a lot of highway  But it's been driven well, I'm told. I don't think you really get me I don't want to mess around  I'm gonna smash up that Mercedes  And ride that Impala out of town.  I don't care about the money, Insurance pays out anyway, And I don't care about the charges  If I get caught I'll have to pay.  But I've hired me some muscle  And a car to drive me fast And I've got a Louey Slugger  Your brand new Benz is in the past.  And yes I've said it all before, There's nothing left for me to do, But smash that new Mercedes Right there in front of you.  I'll come see you in the evening  When you're out somewhere else  And I'll smash your new Mercedes  And then I'm gonna run like hell.

Leave the place that you know now Leave your family friends and all.  There's nothing more that you can do here You never stumbled, tripped or fell.  You can cut me down if you want to  I promise I won't mind.  You've done a lot of awful things But id never say you were unkind. On the subject of heartbreak, Well I think I made it clear There’s not much that I can give you, Except a pistol and a pocket full of tears. Come on now don’t cry my woman, Kneeling there beside my bed, You got a lot of life livin’ You’ve been wasting mine, instead. Well I won’t tell you that I love you It’s something I think you should just know I don’t care if you believe me, Cos after all I’m going home. So pack your things and get to leavin’ That train’s a-coming for me. Take my pistol and my guitar, Don’t ever let ‘em forget me.

Well the rain, yeah it’s cold and hard And the sun, well it bakes my heart. I’m made of clay, and all these broken bones And broken people and their broken homes. And anyway, my doors are closed, But the window’s open. Hear what I say, won’t you listen to me? And really listen, don’t just wait to speak. And really live, don’t just wait to die, And really love. Do you need to ask why? And anyway, my door is closed But the window’s open. Open your heart, sing with me now, The music’s over, the flame’s burned out. But that’s okay, cos still have beer And all our guitars, and some ever clear. And anyway, my door is closed But the window’s open. Smile now, even when the sky falls They can’t bring you down, with their cannonballs Cos in your heart there’s a man who sings And there’s a woman on angel’s wings And anyway, my door is closed But the window’s open.
